Praveena Fernes graduated in 2018 from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She has served as a photojournalist in the developing world, researched population health strategy for hospital leaders nationwide, and is currently a Fulbright Scholar conducting citizen science research in dam-affected Thai wetlands. She will study political ecology and public health as a Marshall Scholar and hopes use to this training to tackle the twin crises of inequality and climate change. Praveena’s belief in the power of storytelling feeds her daily practice. She is a maker of higgledy-piggledy to-do lists, vegetarian cuisine, and the occasional scrapbook.
