Ishmael Maxwell is a Political Science major at Carleton College. He is chiefly interested in building trust across ethnic, religious, and social divisions. At Carleton, he is the founder and president of Carleton’s chapter of Define American and a Lead Writing Consultant. On a Boren Scholarship, he lived in Lucknow, India where he learned Urdu language and gained first-hand experience of the ethnoreligious divisions in the region. He has also interned with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies, and Search for Common Ground. As a Marshall Scholar, Ishmael will pursue an MA in Conflict Transformation and Social Justice from the Queen’s University Belfast.
