Stanford University

Ben Fischer, from Livingston, Montana, graduated Tau Beta Pi from Stanford University with a B.S. in Product Design and a minor in International Relations. He believes in weaving a healthier Web at the intersection of computer science, design, and public policy. Ben previously founded Lighthouse, a VC-backed platform for spontaneous reconnection, and Tree Tutors, one of the first tutoring networks to tackle COVID-19’s education gap. His research has spanned the sociolinguistics of cults, to AI on social networks, to online radicalization. Ben has also worked on strategy, product, and communications across leading AI companies. An avid teacher, Ben has taught public speaking in elementary schools and coached Stanford’s Mock Trial program, where he was a decorated A team captain. In his spare time, he loves to write. Ben has authored a science fiction novel and three collections of poetry.

As a Marshall Scholar, Ben will study the technical and social implications of privacy-preserving verification tools. He hopes to one day build healthier protocols for the Internet’s brighter future.
