Mielad Ziaee, a native of Houston, Texas, is completing a B.S. in Psychology with minors in Medicine & Society and Biology at the University of Houston. He is a Truman Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa Public Service Scholar. Passionate about eliminating health disparities through evidence-based social policy, Mielad worked as an undergraduate researcher at Harvard Medical School and, as a CDC John R. Lewis Scholar, at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He has completed several projects at the nexus of data science, equity, and public health. He is an active leader and volunteer in Houston, having served as the governor-appointed Student Regent of the University of Houston System, as a Junior Fellow of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, and as the first youth member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Houston Chapter.

As a Marshall Scholar, Mielad intends to continue his studies by pursuing a Master of Public Health at the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Health and International Development at the London School of  Economics.
