Karrington Hendrix
Karrington Hendrix is a community service-oriented mental health policy leader.
Having graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University, East Bay, with a B.S. in Health Science and a concentration in Health Policy, Karrington won the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service for her vision and dedication to helping advocate for BIPOC student's mental health. From her scholarship experience, she founded Stigma-Free, East Bay's first mental health club. With inclusion and accessibility at the forefront of Stigma Free's vision, Karrington and her team connected students with counselors of color outside of the school to help combat the school's high demand. Not only was Stigma Free able to provide ~75 free mental health services for students, but it also held many community events, for example they held a panel of social media influencers, to discuss the importance of maintaining one's mental health while online. Stigma Free won CSU East Bay's Outstanding Educational Program and Karrington went on to win CSU East Bay's Outstanding Student Leader and was awarded the 2024 Young Innovators in Behavioral Health Award presented by Hopelabs.
As a community-oriented leader Karrington volunteers for the Black Organizing Project to help advocate for police free schools in Oaklands Unified School District and volunteers as a Peer Counseling Collective Coordinator working to deliver free mental health services. As a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Inc. Karrington upholds the principles of service, scholarships, sisterhood, and finer womanhood as she continues to fight for mental health initiatives. In her spare time Karrington enjoys playing R&B classics on her bass guitar.
