James Shin, from Richmond Hill, GA, studies Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computing and Intelligence at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Stamps President’s Scholar. James currently conducts research in the field of extreme-environment electronics with a focus on characterizing and counteracting the effects of space radiation on satellite communications. He has interned at Blue Origin and SpaceX where he developed electronics to advance the New Shepard and Starlink programs, respectively. His interests extend into the realm of space policy and its role in maintaining a sustainable, secure, and coordinated space domain in an increasingly international and commercial realm. His fascination with the space industry resulted in his selection as a 2024 Matthew Isakowitz Fellow.

James is actively involved in the rock-climbing community at Georgia Tech where he serves as an instructor and has co-founded a chapter of the National Marrow Donor Program to increase access to stem cell transplants. He plans to pursue an MPhil in Physics at the University of Cambridge followed by a master's in public policy at the University of Oxford.
