Emily Springer graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Africana, Puerto Rican, and Latino Studies and a certificate in arts management. She is a journalist for WBGO 88.3 FM, covering local and national jazz news. She also is the program administrator for the Mellon Public Humanities and Social Justice Fellowship at Hunter College. As an undergraduate, she researched jazz and the politics of respectability through the Mellon Public Humanities Fellowship, winning the award for outstanding public outreach. While at Hunter, she was an active member of Hunter College Radio and a college assistant for the Thomas Hunter Honors Program. Emily aims to explore the evolution of jazz in the UK and Black culture's influence on society as a Marshall Scholar. She enjoys listening to music, sewing, and writing in her free time.
