Dr Andrea Viczian
Marshall Sherfield Fellow Andrea has held a long-term interest in eye development as it relates to eye disease. In 1998, she earned her PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA. She was also awarded one of the two inaugural Marshall Sherfield Fellowships for a project at Cambridge University, where she studied frog retina formation. There, she met and married a fellow US scientist. They had their first daughter in Cambridge and their second in the states. They are happily settled in beautiful upstate New York. Andrea is currently studying retinal stem cells in frogs and mice at the State University of New York in Syracuse, where she has started her own lab.
