Marshall Sherfield Fellow Rorik received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1999. His Marshall-Sherfield Fellowship allowed him to work with Dr. Andrew Fowler at the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM), where he worked on a theoretical model of differential frost heave in freezing soils. From there he went to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF) to apply the models they had developed to patterned ground features in Northern Alaska. Rorik is currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UAF where he continues to study frost heave both theoretically and in the laboratory.
