Phil has had a longtime interest in the atmosphere, earning a BS in Meteorology from Penn State with a minor in Mathematics. As a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma, he received a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering, focusing on remote sensing of birds and bats in the lower atmosphere. Phil will receive his PhD in Meteorology in Spring 2015 with a dissertation on biological applications of polarimetric radar. As a Marshall Sherfield Fellow, he will continue biological radar applications in the Radar Entomology Unit of Rothamsted Research. In his free time, Phil is a judo competitor, birder, and homebrewer.
