Caleb Miller is a meteorologist who is especially interested in atmospheric electricity. He studied electrical engineering at Taylor University in Indiana before going on to do a PhD in meteorology at the University of Reading in the UK. There, he investigated how fog affects earth’s electrical environment (partly by making measurements on a tethered balloon in fog), with the aim of improving our ability to predict fog. As a Marshall Sherfield Fellow, Caleb will continue to research electric charge in fog, developing a computer model to calculate electric properties in fog and studying their use for forecasting. Outside of research, Caleb also enjoys playing the piano, writing short stories, and running.
