Sreenidhi Surineni
Sreenidhi “Sree” Surineni is a neuroscience major and philosophy minor at the University of California, Riverside, where he explores the intersection of molecular neuroscience, neurotechnology, and machine learning. Motivated by his family’s experiences with neurodegenerative disease and his work in community health, Sree aims to develop technologies that improve patient care while expanding equitable access to scientific innovation.
In the Zheng Lab, his research investigates how dysregulated RNA splicing contributes to early Alzheimer’s pathology, with a focus on the neuronal splicing factor PTBP2. He developed an automated computer-vision pipeline to detect and quantify axonal swellings, a marker of axonal degeneration, significantly accelerating and standardizing analysis. Sree’s work has been presented at multiple conferences and is currently being prepared for publication.
Beyond research, Sree is the founder and CEO of Enlight Education, a nonprofit that delivers hands-on, project-based STEM programs to underserved students across the United States and internationally. The organization now includes more than thirty-four college chapters and three global sites. On campus, he leads UC Neuro, serves on the Riverside Free Clinic Research Committee, and launched Brain Bites, a public-facing science literacy initiative through UCR’s Undergraduate Research Journal.
As a Marshall Scholar, Sree plans to pursue graduate study in neurotechnology and medical device design. He aims to develop accessible, clinically meaningful neurotechnologies that bridge the gap between molecular research and patient-centered care.
