Anna Singley
Anna Singley is an applied mathematics major and philosophy minor at the University of Portland. She also conducts research in the Theoretical Biology and Biophysics group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She studies mathematical epidemiology, developing quantitative models to understand infectious disease transmission and the impact of public-health interventions. She has collaborated with Oregon Health Authority to examine the health impacts of wildfire smoke, and other past projects include modeling COVID-19 dynamics and suicide-risk in vulnerable populations. She also leads interdisciplinary efforts, including a mathematical analysis of van Gogh’s artwork. On campus, she is president of the Math Club, as well as a leader of the improv club, and a mentor in the Honors program. She is a 2024 Goldwater Scholar and a 2023 recipient of the Portz Interdisciplinary Fellowship. As a Marshall Scholar, she will study infectious disease modeling at the University of Manchester, with the goal of advancing equitable, data-driven responses to global health challenges.
