Loughborough University was founded in 1909 as a small Technical Institute offering courses in technical subjects, Science and Art. In 1966, it became known as Loughborough University of Technology, before adopting its current name in 1996. The continuous land acquisitions have helped transform its Loughborough site into the impressive 523-acre campus it is today. Life in Loughborough
Loughborough is a welcoming market town in the Leicestershire countryside and is home to one of the UK’s largest single-site campuses. With green open spaces, landscaped gardens, and the country’s largest concentration of world-class sporting facilities, the campus offers a unique environment where everything is within easy reach.
Loughborough benefits from excellent transport links thanks to its central location, with major cities such as London, Leicester, Nottingham and Derby, which are all just a short train ride away. East Midlands Airport is also only 15 minutes away by taxi, making weekend trips across Europe easily accessible.
The town itself has plenty to offer from its a wide range of shops, supermarkets and international food outlets including halal butchers, alongside a famous twice-weekly market and occasional speciality European markets.
