Nathaniel Dolton-Thornton, from Santa Cruz, California, graduated in 2016 from UC Berkeley’s Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management with highest distinction, honors, and Phi Beta Kappa. While at UC Berkeley, he collaborated with Robert Hass and Paula Varsano on the first extensive series of translations of the ninth-century Chinese poet Liu Zongyuan. He now works for King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks, where he focuses on expanding his program’s outreach to historically underserved populations. He plans to study the politics of conservation through an MPhil in Geographical Research at the University of Cambridge.
