Essence is a Brooklyn born artist. They graduated from Kingsborough Community College before dedicating themselves to their artistry at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Essence is interested in exploring the immense space (and lack thereof) between Black folks, and queerness, and science. They have been fortunate to train with companies like 600HIGHWAYMEN, National Black Theater, and Theater Mitu. Through writing and performance, they will dismantle oppressive forces and create a world that is safer for Black queer and trans folks. As a Marshall Scholars, Essence will pursue a Master’s in Applied Theatre at Goldsmith’s, University of London
