Cy Gilman, from Santa Monica, California, double majored in English and Applied Math at Columbia University. At Columbia, he was a writer and editor for the The Blue and White, where he covered subjects including Columbia’s student worker strike and the corporate strategy of the ed-tech company Chegg, and founded the publication's regular crossword column. Since graduation, he has interned at the journal n+1. At Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, he conducted computational research on the relationship between anthropogenic aerosols and tropical cyclones, and at Occidental College's Moore Lab of Zoology, he used photogrammetry to generate 3D digital models of bird specimens. With BEAM, a tuition-free extracurricular math program for underserved middle-school students, he TA-ed courses on logic and voting theory. As a Marshall scholar, Cy plans to pursue an MA in Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London and an MA in Human Rights at Birkbeck, University of London.
