Originally from Wellesley, Massachusetts, Julia Chaffers is a senior at Princeton University, where she studies History and African American Studies. Her research focuses on race and collective historical memory, and her senior thesis explores the history behind Confederate mascots in schools outside the U.S. South. Outside the classroom, Julia served as President of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society and was a Senior Columnist for the Daily Princetonian. She has worked in communications for Princeton's African American Studies department and interned as a summer scholar at the Century Foundation. As a Marshall Scholar, Julia will study U.S. history and politics at University College London and British history with a focus on public history at the University of Manchester.
