Marshall Institutional Advisors

Applications for Marshall Scholarships must be submitted to and endorsed by an accredited US University. Each University should have a single named representative who will be responsible for the processing and endorsing of these applications. Application Process

The student completes and submits their application through the application system to the institution. The registered institutional advisor ensures that the application is true, original and in accordance with the Candidate Rules, and decides whether to endorse it. The application is then submitted through the system to the regional committee. Guidance on accessing the application system can be found in the section above.

To access the secure institutional section of the Marshall application system, an institution must register a nominated representative or institutional advisor using a registration form. The representative’s details will be processed and the institutional advisor will receive an information on how to create an account. If you have not yet registered for the current application cycle or need to update the institutional contact at your university, please email institutionsupport@marshallscholarship.org. 

Updating and registering advisors only takes place during the application cycle. After the application launches, there will be a 2-3 working day processing time.

Key Facts

  • Candidates may apply in one region only – either that in which they have their permanent home address or ordinary place of residence/employment, or that in which they are studying. Any candidate applying in more than one region will automatically be disqualified.
  • Candidates may apply for either the one year or two year Scholarship not both. Any candidate found applying for both will automatically be disqualified. If a student accidentally chooses the wrong application they can change this themselves within the Application.
  • Candidates must submit their application on the online form provided. Applications must be endorsed by the President, Provost, or Academic Dean of the applicant’s US educational institution. The letter of endorsement should be considered as similar to a letter of recommendation and should state why the institution is endorsing the candidate.
  • No endorsing institution may submit more than 24 applications overall. There is no cap on the number of applications that can be sent to an individual Region, but the overall number of applications that an institution can endorse will be a maximum of 24.
  • All candidates must complete and submit their applications to you no later than 5:00pm in the time zone where your endorsing institution is located on 16 September 2025. Recommenders are also required to submit their letters of recommendation by this deadline. The application will then be processed by your endorsing institution for submission. No changes will be able to be made to the application after this date.
  • Final submission of the application, including the three letters of recommendation and letter of endorsement, must be submitted online by the endorsing institution and received at the regional centre no later than 5:00pm in the time zone where your endorsing institution is located on 18 September 2025.
  • A pdf of the candidate’s official Academic transcripts must be submitted online by the candidate. Photocopies of the transcript are acceptable. Unofficial transcripts, including student unofficial transcripts are not acceptable and if these are included the application may be considered ineligible. If invited to interview candidates will be required to courier one hard copy of the transcript to the Regional Centre.

Letter of Endorsement

The letter of endorsement is the Institution’s opportunity to give the regional committee a deeper insight into the candidate’s qualities and potential. Endorsers should indicate how the candidate performed throughout the college or university selection process, and why the institution chose to endorse that candidate.  The letter should provide perspective—placing the candidate, the letters of recommendation, and the application in context.  It should also outline why and how the candidate best fits the Marshall Scholarship criteria. The letter should typically be provided by the President, Provost, Academic Dean or equivalent of the endorsing university. 

The letter of endorsement does not need to repeat what is covered elsewhere in the application and letters of recommendation.  The endorsement letter should tell the Regional Committee what they cannot know from the application and recommendation letters.
