Herman Luis Chavez is graduating from UCLA with majors in Ethnomusicology and Comparative Literature. Raised by Bolivian immigrants, Chavez researches the paradigms of Latin American aesthetics with cultural and social policy. Their honors thesis as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow investigates the coloniality surrounding Bolivian composer and musicologist Atiliano Auza León.
Chavez co-authored a research guide on U.S. Latinx civil rights and produced an accompanying podcast season highlighting Latinx activists, scholars, and policymakers at the Library of Congress. With a passion for researching and teaching performance, writing, and ethnic studies, Chavez will study music and policy at King's College London.
