Kit Neikirk, from Pāhoa, Hawaii, graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in 2023 with degrees in Chemistry (Biosciences Track), Biology (Cell, Molecular, & Biomedical track), and Sociology. He was also awarded certificates in STEM Honors (Chemistry) and Global Engagement. Kit served as Editor-In-Chief of his university’s academic journal and worked in the student government, supporting fellow students through the COVID pandemic. He currently continues to publish several manuscripts based on his research in the Hinton Lab at Vanderbilt University, where he has focused his research on how mitochondria structure changes across aging and pathology across murine and human tissue types. As a Marshalls Scholar, Kit will pursue an MPH in Public Health at the University of Edinburgh as well as a MSc in Advanced Biomedical Imaging at University College London.
