My transition from HIV prevention fieldwork in South Africa to graduate school in London has been challenging but rewarding. I am pursuing an MSc/PhD in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My PhD research is focused on the use of sports-based interventions to prevent HIV among adolescents. LSHTM is one of the best institutions in the world for studying epidemiology – the coursework has been incredibly practical and interactive, enabling me to work closely with fellow students from around the world. Outside of school, I try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible, play Ultimate Frisbee competitively, drum in a funk/rock band with fellow Marshalls, and build online databases to help NGOs more effectively track the impact of their work.
