Becca Farnum, 2012 Scholar, University of East Anglia

beccafarnumAs a Marshall Scholar at the University of East Anglia, I am affiliated with one of the world’s leading centres in climate change and sustainable development while living in the gorgeous medieval city of Norwich, complete with its own Norman Castle. The support of the Marshall Commission has meant regular travel to London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Aberdeen, Oxford, Glasgow, and Northern Ireland for conferences and to meet with advisors or catch up with friends. At home, I’m babysitting Welsh and British schoolchildren, involved in local theatre productions, and mentoring English and Swedish high schoolers in a carbon reduction entrepreneurship programme. Studying Middle Eastern food and water security and environmental justice from a UK perspective has been an irreplaceable addition to my academic career. The experience has been unparalleled, unforgettable, and life changing…and, as an EPA Marshall Scholar, I know it’s only just beginning.
