Elizabeth Ogonek

ElizabethOgonekElizabeth Ogonek, a New York City native, holds a BM in composition from Indiana University and will receive her MM from the University of Southern California in May 2012. She currently studies with Stephen Hartke. She has been commissioned by the Brillaner Duo, the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, Alma Maria Liebrecht and the Deviant Septet. Her music has been performed by the IU Concert Orchestra, the Wellesley Sinfonietta, Dinosaur Annex, the Brillaner Duo, members of eighth blackbird and the Britten-Pears Ensemble. Her new chamber orchestra piece will be premiered in the 2012 Aldeburgh Festival. Elizabeth is a 2009 Beinecke Scholar

Madalyn Parnas

US University: Indiana University

MadalynParlosAt 20, violinist Madalyn Parnas has performed fifty times as soloist with orchestra, concertized with Peter Serkin, and earned enthusiastic reviews in the New York Times. With sister Cicely, as duo parnas, she earned 1st prize in international competition at Carnegie Hall. The duo records on the Sheffield Lab label. An Artist Diploma student of Jaime Laredo at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Madalyn will begin her studies at London's Royal Academy of Music this fall as a Marshall Scholar. She completed her undergraduate degree in Music Industry and French at The College of Saint Rose, graduating summa cum laude.

Michael Poll

US University: University of Pennsylvania

MichaelPollClassical guitarist Michael Poll of Philadelphia holds a BA summa cum laude in Music from the University of Pennsylvania and a Performance Diploma from the Academy of Music in Poznan, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar in 2010. As a soloist, he has appeared in Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Panama, Poland, and the United States, and has served on the Faculty of the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music, and the Polish Guitar Academy summer festival. At Penn he was a founding member of the Green Campus Partnership.

Leah Rand

US University: University of Chicago

LeahRandLeah Rand, a Maryland resident, will graduate from the University of Chicago this spring with a degree in the History and Philosophy of Science and a minor degree in Art History. Leah studies medical ethics and is writing her senior thesis on issues of just distribution. Pursuing that interest, she will be studying applied ethics and philosophy at the University of Oxford next year. Leah is the Head Judge and an organizer of the University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt, the world's largest scavenger hunt.

Emily Rutherford

US University: Princeton University

Emily_RutherfordEmily Rutherford will graduate from Princeton University in June with a degree in History and a certificate in American Studies. Emily is writing a senior thesis on the life and work of one J.A. Symonds, a pivotal figure in the intellectual history of male homosexuality in Victorian Britain, for which work she has been awarded departmental prizes and a summer research fellowship. She enjoys antiquarian books, university policy committees, and vegetarian cooking, and hopes someday to be an academic historian. She will be reading for an MPhil in Modern British and European History at Oxford.
