30 May – 1 June 2014, twenty-four Norfolk students gathered at Holt Hall for a fun weekend
of outdoor exploration, environmental arts, and community engagement. The students were
hosted by the Marshall Scholars, postgraduate students from America sponsored for study in
the United Kingdom by the UK Government.
“DESiGN: Developing Environmental Sustainability in Greater Norfolk” involved three days
of interactive workshops, competitions, and activities focused on personal development,
careers readiness, and environmental action. Participants built their teambuilding,
communication, and campaigning skills and proved their commitment to environmental
leadership, community engagement, and arts education in Norfolk.
Check out the programme website https://sites.google.com/site/designnorfolk/home/about for more
information on the programmes and to see some of the environmental photography and
poetry created by students on the residential. The website also includes video presentations of
the students’ action plans for improving the environment in their communities. DESiGN
attendees are truly well equipped to help design our future!
